Thomas Melvin Pruitt

Thomas Melvin Pruitt oh Hendersonville NC joined loved ones in heaven on January 16, 2022.  He was born January 20, 1937, in Danville, VA to the late John Bentley Pruitt Sr and Esther Serena Hill Pruitt.  He was preceded in death by his brothers John Bentley Pruitt Jr, Raymond Nelson Pruitt and his sister Josephine Clay Harris (Pruitt).  After graduating high school, Tom enlisted in the US Navy following his brothers footsteps and something that he was very proud of.   While in the navy, he married his loving wife, Linda Dove Pruitt on August 23, 1958, and have been married for 63 years.  He then went to work for IBM and retired from there after a long career.  He has spent the majority of his time for the past few years as the caregiver for his wife who continues to suffer through Alzheimer’s.

Tom was a member of Mud Creek Baptist Church.  He loved the Lord with all of his heart.  He also had a passion for golf and spent a lot of time at Etowah Valley Golf Club.  He had lots of friends there and enjoyed the fellowship with so many golfing buddies over the years.  He also served as the Fire Chief of Morrisville volunteer fire department and was a volunteer fireman at Mountain Home volunteer fire department for many years.

Tom was affectionately known as “Boppa”.  He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.  He loved spending time with family no matter what the occasion was.  He had a very special place in his heart for all of the kids and was so proud of each and every one of them.  Left to cherish his memory are children, Carol Ann Brown (Sean) and Jeffrey Thomas Pruitt (Donna).  Grandchildren Maria Harwood (David), Kendra Rhinehart (Tucker), Megan Hackney, Ella Pruitt, Logan Pruitt and Allie Pruitt.  Great grandchildren Finley Harwood, Brylon Burke, Adriana (AJ) Garren, Charlie (Jack) Rhinehart, Tomi Layne Rhinehart, Harper Faircloth and Greyson Hackney.

A memorial visitation will be held at Mud Creek Baptist Church in Hendersonville, NC on Sunday, February 6, 2021, from 1 to 2 PM with a memorial service to follow at 2PM.
