Thomas Darrel Conrad, 79, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2023.
Surviving are his life partner, Trudy Erickson (sons Chad and Thad Erickson and families); children, Cory (Staci) Conrad, Andy (Karen) Conrad and Amanda Conrad (Justin Steck); brothers Jerry (Jan) Conrad, Dick (Kathy) Conrad and Denny (Veronique) Conrad; grandchildren, Dakota and Sydney Conrad (Cory & Staci), Ryan, Adam, Nathan and Noah Conrad (Andy & Karen).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Laura Conrad.
Tom was born June 30, 1944, in Anamosa, Iowa. He was a graduate of Anamosa High School and then completed his Bachelors degree in Education at State College of Iowa (UNI). He taught 7th and 8th grade mathematics and coached several athletic teams at Harding Junior High School for 36 years before retiring in 2002. He met his life partner, Trudy, on Dec 28, 2002, and she has been his soulmate ever since.
Tom had a great passion for recreational activities, specifically fishing, golfing, bowling and mushroom hunting. He also greatly enjoyed creating lasting memories with family and friends, to include countless fishing trips to Minnesota, many hours on the links at Airport National Golf Course, bowling in several leagues and attending his and Trudy’s grandchildren’s various sporting events. He was also a devoted fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes. Tom positively impacted many lives in the community through his unwavering dedication to teaching math at Harding. One of his favorite quotes for teachers was, “We’re not in it for the income, we’re in it for the outcome.” He was a wonderful father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
The family will celebrate Tom’s life on Friday, June 14th at Lowe Park (Hickory/Sunburst rooms) in Marion, Iowa. The family will greet guests from 4-5 pm followed by a Celebration of life service and a meal.
