Theresa Norton Greco

Theresa Norton Greco, 58, of Springfield, IL passed away on Friday, September 16, 2022 at Springfield Memorial Hospital.  She was born on December 24, 1963 in Boulder, CO to Donald R. Norton Sr. and Mary Terry Norton.  Her father preceded her in death on January 28, 2021.

Theresa is survived by her two sons, Dominic Joseph Greco and Alexander Owen Greco, both of Springfield; mother, Mary Terry Norton of Springfield; brother, Donald R. (Beth) Norton, Jr. of Harrison, TN; three nieces, Katie Norton of Nashville, TN, Lauren Norton of New York, NY and Madison Hamilton of Richmond, KY; beloved family friend, Ethan Holloway; her precious kittens, Gamma and Rho; her Gamma Delta Literary Society sisters; and many, many dear friends, students and fellow teachers.

Theresa graduated from Pleasant Plains High School in 1981, making many lifelong friends while there. She went on to Illinois College in Jacksonville, where she graduated with a communications degree and became a part of different organizations, most notably, Gamma Delta Literary Society.

Theresa began her teaching career at Douglas Alternative School and later at Southeast High School, and that is when she “fell in love with the kids”.

Upon finding her passion, she furthered her education at University of Illinois – Springfield, graduating with an Elementary Education degree and continued with a master’s in Secondary Education.  Theresa then accepted a position at Springfield High School, spending 19 years there and positively impacting thousands of students as a teacher and later as an assistant principal.  She ended her career as Assistant Principal for Franklin Middle School.

Her family, friends and students were a major part of her life, but it was not all of it.  To no one’s surprise, many days, you’d find her rooting for a win by her cherished St. Louis Cardinals. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

A private memorial service will be held for Theresa, with Rev. Susan Phillips officiating.

Memorial Gathering and Celebration of Theresa’s Life: 4 – 6 pm, Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Since Theresa didn’t meet an animal she didn’t love, memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protective League.
