Thelma “Sally” F. Nelson

Thelma “Sally” F. Nelson, 97, of Ontario, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at The Waterford.

Sally was born in Brandon, Ohio, on June 14, 1924. She was a 1941 graduate of Madison Comprehensive High School, and went on to graduate as Valedictorian in her 50’s from the nursing program at North Central Technical College. Sally retired as an LPN from Galion Community Hospital. Sally embraced many roles in her life but her most favorite role was that of a mother. She was a wonderful mother and would do anything for her children. Sally’s caring nature made her the person who knew no strangers and was there for anyone. She was a great conversationalist. Sally was a member of Cornerstone Grace Brethren Church. In her earlier years, she tried her hand at baking and made delicious cakes. She was an avid reader, building a collection of over fifteen hundred books in her library. She enjoyed needle work and embroidery.

She leaves behind her daughter, Ruth Hatfield; her son, Daniel (Sandra) Nelson; her grandchildren, Wendy (Carey Matsumoto) Knapp and Keith (Veronica) Knapp; her great-grandchildren, Madeline Kochheiser, Ayvette, Alivia, Aven, and Alaric Knapp; her brother, Clifford (Karen) Roop; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Etsil Daniel “Ed” Nelson; her father, Michael Roop; her mother and step-father, Ada Pearl (Lester) Marietta; and her brothers, James, Richard, Arthur, Herman; and her infant sister, Pauline.

The Nelson family will welcome friends on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 from 4:00-6:00 pm at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington Springmill Road.
