Sydney Baldwin Self, Jr.

 

Sydney Baldwin Self, Jr. passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at Universal Health Care in Fletcher, North Carolina.  He was born in New Canaan, Connecticut, October 19, 1924, the son of Sydney Baldwin Self and Margaret Cabell Self.

 

He was a World War II veteran serving in the Army from 1943-1946 as a water supply technician.  Following his discharge he attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, graduating with a degree in Technical Business Administration in 1950 followed by a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Northeastern University.  He worked for a number of technology firms in the Boston area and specialized in computer programming and data processing.  He ultimately became an independent business consultant.

 

Sydney had many interests beyond his professional career, including photography, gardening, and beekeeping.  In his later years, he traveled extensively visiting every state in the continental United States as well as numerous European countries. He spent the last 20 years of his life in Hendersonville, North Carolina and was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church.

 

He is survived by his son, Robert Logan Self (Ruth) of Wingina, Virginia; one grandson, Logan Cabell Self (Caroline); and two great-grandchildren, Astrid and Ayida Self.
