Susan W. Long

Susan W. Long, age 76 of Kaneville, IL passed away unexpectedly Friday, January 29, 2021 at Amita Health Mercy Medical Center, Aurora, IL. Susan was born February 17, 1944 in DeKalb, IL to Ludwig “Lud” and Wilma (Freundt) Watne.

Susan grew up in Hinckley, IL and graduated from Hinckley-Big Rock High School, with the Class of 1962. Susan then attended the University of Illinois, Champaign, IL and was a member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority. After college, Susan was a teacher for local school districts and was employed by Hinckley-Big Rock School District for several years.

June 22, 1968 Susan was united in marriage to Dennis Long, and they spent 45 years together raising their family, until his passing in June of 2014. Susan was a member of the Kaneville United Methodist Church Kaneville, IL.

Susan is survived by her daughters, Sarah Dunlop of Kaneville, IL, Laura Rudow and Debby Long both of Elburn, IL; her granddaughters, Allison Dunlop of Iowa City, IA and Alyssa Ekstrom of Kaneville, IL; her brother, Toby (Barb) Watne of Hinckley, IL; sisters-in-law Peggy Long of Pittsboro, IN, Pat (Dave) Sigmund of Sugar Grove, IL; brother-in-law Bill (Pam) Long of Hines, MN; her cousin, (who was more of a sister to her), Chris Lind of Hinckley, IL; as well as several nieces and nephews, a large extended family and numerous friends, all remembering her as the “kindest” woman in the world.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Lud and Wilma Watne; her husband Denny Long; brother Richard Watne; son-in-law James “Jim” Dunlop III; and brother-in-law Richard “Rick” Long.

Friends may visit February 3, 2021 from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Nash-Nelson Memorial Chapel 141 N. Maple Street, Hinckley, IL. At 7:00 PM there will be a private family Memorial Service with Reverend Nany Blade, Pastor Kaneville United Methodist Church, officiating. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Susan’s name. Checks can be made to the “Susan Long Memorial” and mailed in care of; 141 N. Maple, Hinckley, IL 60520.

The family has requested everyone wear a mask and practice social distancing.
