Shirley Serena

Shirley C. Serena nee Gatterdam, age 92, of Palatine. Beloved wife of George Serena for 72 wonderful years. Devoted mother to Karen (Ron) Bernier, Patricia (Doug) Poder, and Tom (Lisa Stoll). Loving grandmother to Aron (Kirsten), Criston (Michelle), Monica (Mike), Scott, Eric, Adam, Kathryn, and the late Meagan. Great-grandmother of 11. Dear sister to Marge, Don, and the late Ted. Preceded in death by parents Theodore and Mildred Gatterdam. Shirley was a 30 year volunteer at St. Thomas of Villanova Parish, as well as a Eucharistic minister at Northwest Community Hospital. She will be missed for her sense of humor, love of reading and her devout faith.

A memorial visitation will be held at St. Thomas of Villanova from 9-10 am on Friday, July 8th, 2022, following with a Mass at 10 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Thomas.
