Shirley L. Glover

Shirley L. Glover entered the eternal joyful presence of the Lord on February 3, 2024.  Shirley was born on July 24, 1934 to the late Jacob and Iona Atterberry.  Shirley was raised in Jacksonville, Florida and she often reminisced about her wonderful childhood and growing up with her 6 siblings in a household that was filled with faith, love, and laughter.

Shirley believed in the importance of education.  She earned a degree in nursing from Edward Waters College, an HBCU now known as Edward Waters University located in Jacksonville, Florida.

Shirley resided in Florida until meeting and marrying the love of her life, the late Lester (Joe) Glover born in Selma, Alabama.  They relocated to Cleveland, Ohio to raise their family.  Shirley was a stay at home mom until the untimely death of her husband.  She then entered the workforce working diligently and tirelessly to care and provide for her family until retiring from General Electric in 1994.

Shirley was a devoted and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.  She often poured her love, care, and wisdom into her family as well as her friends and she selflessly put her family first to make sure that everyone had everything needed to be happy and fulfilled.  Shirley was also unapologetic when conveying her thoughts and directives and she meant what she said and said what she meant.

Shirley had a vast array of interests which included cooking, traveling, spending time with her family and friends, reading, and most importantly living a life that was purposeful and driven by her love for family and God.  She was a woman of beauty, strength, dignity, courage, and faith.

Shirley leaves a legacy of love and strength in the hearts of her children, Darlene, Regina, Emmanuel, and David as well as her grandchildren, great grandchildren and all who knew her.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Jacob and Iona Atterberry, husband Lester (Joe) Glover, sons Michael and Joseph, daughter Schyrle, grandchildren Mary and Fadae, and her siblings Agnes, Carrie, Phinneze, Elvin, Jacob (Delores), and Sylvia.
