Shelley was the daughter of James L. Myers and Linda (Harkin) Myers. Born on May 31, 1969, in Manchester, Iowa, raised in nearby Lamont, and graduated from Starmont High School in 1987. A short time later she would start a career with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office in 1990 where she excelled at essential positions.

Shelley retired in 2019 and started a new adventure, touring the country in an RV with her husband Bill. During their travels they hiked the Grand Canyon, saw some great natural and historical sites, and visited over 100 unique craft breweries. She eventually settled in West Virginia where she operated two quick-lube Grease Monkey franchises, in the Fairmont area.

Shelley was an avid Hawkeyes fan and football season ticket holder. She traded work shifts to attend every home football game and continued to tailgate and attend games even after moving to West Virginia, when her health allowed.

Shelley was an absolute firecracker, adding a touch of honesty that endeared her to those fortunate enough to share in her presence. She was a fierce mama bear and loved cheering on her kids and grandkids in all their endeavors. With her hair and nails done, Shelley was always up for a good time, embracing life with joy, leaving a trail of positivity and laughter in her wake.

Shelley’s loves included her grandkids, kids, dog “Hayden,” horse “Mo,” mountain holler cat “Rusty,” and her Jeep.

Shelley is survived by her husband William “Bill” Deatsch; children, Amber Smith of Iowa City, Iowa, Brianna (Jerod) Schultz of Winthrop, Iowa, and Cameron (Maitreyi) Smith of Tiffin, Iowa; her stepchildren Rachel and Thomas Deatsch; grandchildren, Ania Lindsey, JaMyah Lindsey, Nolan Andrews, Blake Schultz, and Vincent Schultz; her mother, Linda Myers; siblings, Jim (Jackie) Myers, Rick (Kristen) Myers, Gene (Loretta) Myers, Lynn (Alan) Knipper; mother-in-law Donna Deatsch; sisters-in-law Liz Deatsch and Terri Fanning; brother-in-law Dan (Cassie) Deatsch. As well as many nieces and nephews.

Shelley was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents, her father, James L. Myers, father-in-law Elmer Deatsch, and brother-in-law, Chuck Deatsch.

Shelley touched many lives in her time and her memories and love will not be forgotten.
