Sharon K. Wellington, 84, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, Jan. 23, 2023, in Hospice at West Ridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., with visitation beginning one hour prior Saturday, Feb. 18, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Sharon Kay Wellington was born Sept. 23, 1938, to Dale and Marjorie (Derby) Moody near Keota, Iowa. Sharon grew up on the farm northeast of Keota and graduated from Keota High School in 1956. She attended Gale Institute of Minneapolis, Minn., and was employed at the Santa Fe Railway offices in Chicago. She married Paul Wellington on Friday, Dec., 28, 1956, a union lasting 62 years, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Carlson in Jacksonville, Ill. They had a double ring ceremony performed in candlelight by the Rev. William J. Boston of Jacksonville before the fireplace. They later moved to Cedar Rapids. She held multiple positions during her career at Rockwell and retired in 1995 as a spec writer. Sharon owned and managed rental properties.

Mom enjoyed collecting antiques, playing card with family, bowling, playing the piano and working out in the yard. She loved spending time with her grandkids. Sharon was a perfectionist.

Survivors include children, Scott (Laurie) Wellington, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Stacy Wellington of Cedar Rapids; along with two grandchildren, Alexandra and Colton.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two babies, Steven and Kathy; and two siblings, Virginia and Robert.

The burial will be in Keota, Iowa, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the family.
