Sharon F. Dietz

Sharon F. Dietz, 79, of New Philadelphia, passed away on July 26, 2022 under the care of Community Hospice, an organization she served as a passionate fundraiser for the past 28 years. In the peaceful environment of the Community Hospice Truman House, Sharon passed away with her loving family by her side following a period of declining health.

Born in Fairfield, Illinois on January 1, 1943, Sharon was the daughter of the late James Kenneth “J.K” Jones and Leila Faye (Lang) Jones. After completing high school in Fairfield, Sharon continued her formal education at Kent State University with honors. There, she was inducted into the Golden Key National Honors Society, graduated magna cum laude, and received a bachelor’s degree in business.

From 1978 to 1986, Sharon co-owned and operated Dietz Oil Field Supply. She continued her career with Personal and Family Counseling Services in 1997, retiring in 2015 having served in the accounting and administration offices.

Most notably, Sharon was a devoted and passionate volunteer for Community Hospice. Not only did she co-chair the Culinary Capers fundraising event which generated more than $750,000 under her direction, she participated in all facets of fundraising. Whether she was working the Quality Corner at the Hospice Garage Sale, or selling tickets and monitoring golf holes at the Hospice Golf outing, Sharon was quick to offer her time and talent to generate funds for local, patient care.

She also was an avid reader, enjoyed her membership with Eastern Star, and was a 17-year-member of the B.P.O.E Lodge #510. Most importantly, Sharon was a loving companion, mother, and grandmother to her treasured family.

Sharon will be deeply missed by her children including David (Sheila) Dietz of Sherrodsville, Holly Dietz of Pittsburgh, and Jason Dietz of Shadyside, OH; her companion, John Horning of New Philadelphia and his children, Diane Fischer, Sue Horning, Christy Crank, Bob Horning, Dave Horning, and Gina Bielski and 16 grandchildren; and her siblings, Jimmy Jones of Maryville, TN, Spencer Jones of Columbia, MO, Glenda Zane of Fairfield, IL, and Kate Ackerman of Mt. Caramel, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

No public visitation or services are currently planned. Inurnment will be held in Schoenbrunn Memorial Gardens at a later date.

To honor Sharon’s life and commitment to hospice fundraising, please direct all memorial contributions in her memory to Community Hospice Truman House, 716 Commercial Ave., SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
