Sandra Jeanne Moherman
- September 30, 2021
Sandra Jeanne Moherman, 85, passed away on September 28, 2021 from complications of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). Sandra was born May 31, 1936 in Ashland County the older daughter of the late Donald and Dora Echelberger.
Sandra first pursued music on a scholarship from Ashland College but decided to pursue nursing. She graduated as a registered nurse from the Mansfield General Hospital School of Nursing in 1959. She worked in private doctors’ offices, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home and at Samaritan Hospital where she worked for 12 years as a med/surg nurse and night supervisor.
While she officially retired from Good Shepherd in 1997, she continued using her nursing skills for many years. Volunteer activities with the American Red Cross included assisting with the blood bank and holding monthly blood pressure clinics at Buehler’s. She also served on the Ashland County Respiratory and TB Board for many years. She was very involved with the Health Cabinet at Peace Lutheran Church where she coordinated and participated in monthly blood pressure clinics and health and wellness programs.
Mom loved playing the piano and singing. She shared her musical gifts as the organist at Dickey Church of the Brethren for many years. She then became an active member at Peace Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir.
Known as Sandra in her younger years, when she met Dale he called her Sandy. On February 6, 1959, Sandy married Dale Moherman, her loving husband and friend for 50 years who preceded her in death. They have two daughters, Lora and Bruce Marvin of Bainbridge, Ohio and Lisa Moherman and Jeanne Lemasters of Morgantown, West Virginia. Sandra is survived by her sister, Wanda (John) Miller, and her nephews, Randal Miller and Don (Nancy) Miller.
During her latter years she was a resident of Lutheran Village in Ashland, where she met new friends in the staff that became like family over the years. We’d like to thank the folks at Lutheran Village for caring for Mom so much. We’d also like to give a special thanks to Kindred Hospice and Sunshine Homecare. All these folks were critical in helping make Mom’s last years better.
The family will receive friends starting at 9:00 a.m. Monday, October 4, 2021, at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1360 Smith Road, Ashland. Service begins at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Karen Liddy officiating. Burial will follow in Ashland Cemetery.
In honor of Mom being a nurse who was compassionate and cared for others, especially during these times of COVID, we are requiring masks at the service. If you don’t feel comfortable wearing a mask, please go to the Wappner Funeral Directors website to leave condolences.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lutheran Village employee appreciation fund, Kindred Hospice, or Peace Lutheran Church.
The Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is honored to serve the family of Sandra Moherman.
