Samuel Monroe Canafax

Samuel Monroe Canafax, simply known as “Roe”, to all who loved him, passed away February 14, 2021, at the age of 68. Celebration of Life: Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 2pm at the Cemetery Tabernacle in Poolville, Texas.

Roe was born on September 5, 1952, to Berry and Euna Canafax, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was the middle child, having an older and younger sister. As a small child, Roe and his family moved to California where his father found work. He spent a majority of his younger years there. The family moved to Poolville, Texas, when Roe was in high school.

Roe was a very intelligent student and became a very will liked and respected young man. It is here that he formed strong connections with many who would become his true lifelong friends. He graduated from Poolville High School in 1970.

Following graduation, Roe served in the U.S. Army for four years. He later went into the postal service where he worked for the rest of his career. He retired as a Postmaster in Gordon, Texas, after 38 years in the postal service. Like his father, Roe was also a Mason, being a member of the Phoenix Masonic Lodge in Weatherford, Texas. He was also a member of the Annetta Methodist Church with his wife, Sharon.

Roe was a man who truly loved life and lived it on his own terms. If you knew him at all, you knew how true this was. As a husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend, he was honest and loyal to a fault. He made time for those he loved and was always willing to lend a hand when needed. If he loved you, you knew it without any doubt. He had his own ways of showing it, too, whether creating a “nickname” for you or teasing you just to rile you up. Either way, you knew he was expressing his love for you by saying one of his favorite sayings, “Have I told you today that I love ya?”. He was also an avid talker and storyteller who loved to put every detail into what he was saying. Some stories might have gotten a little long, but he took such joy in telling them!

One of Roe’s greatest joys in life was watching his sons and later his grandsons playing sports. He was a fixture at most games, rarely missing a contest. Until the very end, he was cheering on Jayden, Jerrin and Cason from afar, in basketball and football. He was truly, one proud “POPS” to all his grandkids.

Roe leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife Sharon of Dennis, Texas; sons, Jeremy and wife Amari Canafax of Poolville, Sammy Canafax of Fort Worth; Stepdaughter Vanessa Dehnisch and husband Matt of Brock; sisters, Beth Rowney and husband Billy of Poolville, Debbie Robason of Weatherford; grandsons, Jayc, Jayden, Jerrin and Cason; granddaughters, Ruby, McKenzie, Melanie and Macie; nephews, Billy, Brian and Neil and niece, Taylor.
