Ruth Lee Drake Garren

 

Ruth Lee Drake Garren, age 93, of Hendersonville, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at The Elizabeth House of Four Seasons. She was born in the Fruitland community of Henderson County on February 16, 1928, to the late Robert Thomas and Mattie Melinda Drake.

 

Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Arnold.  She was the last survivor of ten children.

 

Ruth was a 1948 graduate of Edneyville High School and retired from General Electric Outdoor Lighting Company in Hendersonville after more than 30 years of service. She was a member of Locust Grove Baptist Church where she was a dedicated Sunday school teacher and youth leader for many years. She was also a talented quilter and crafter.  Ruth was a godly woman who never met a stranger and believed that you should laugh often and love your family.

 

She is survived by her foster niece, Lola D. Coston (David) of Hendersonville, North Carolina; her foster nephew, Mark A. Drake of Hendersonville, North Carolina; her many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews; and many special cousins and friends.

 

A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 5, 2021 in the sanctuary of Locust Grove Baptist Church with the Reverend Dan Blackwell officiating.  The family will receive friends from 2:00-2:30 pm, prior to the service, at the church.

The family would like to thank “Aunt Ruth’s” neighbors, friends, volunteers, doctors and nurses who took the time to check in on her and care for her during the last few years.
