Ruth (Funk) Allender, 73, of Nevada, TX, passed away peacefully with love in her heart on Monday, August 10, 2024. Ruth fought a courageous battle from infection, led a good life and was a special soul loved by many.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue in Iowa City from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, with a memorial service immediately following at 10:30 AM. Family and friends will gather at The Kirkwood Room, 515 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City to celebrate her life following the committal service.

Ruth was born May 23, 1951, in Iowa City, the daughter of John & Ruth (Hauk) Funk.

Ruth married Pat Allender on August 31, 1974. They moved to Lone Tree, IA where they welcomed their daughter Sara. After 10 years the family relocated back to Iowa City.

Ruth and Pat spent years creating a life of adventures, memories, happiness, camping, and motorcycle riding with friends.

Ruth owned and operated two daycares, The Little Schoolhouse and All Aboard and retired as the BASP Director at Horace Mann Elementary School. She touched many lives and loved taking care of children; it kept her young at heart!

Ruth and Pat moved to Nevada, TX in December of 2021 to be closer to their daughter and family.

Survivors include their daughter, Sara (Luke) Mallicoat; grandsons, Ethan and Evan; the family dog, Ella; her brother in laws John (Sandy) Allender and Jim Allender; sisters-in-law, Anita Funk and Deb Funk; several nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews; and a large extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents John & Ruth Funk, her husband Pat Allender, her brothers Larry & Kenneth Funk; sister & brother-in-law Gloria & Bob Kelley and brother & sister-in-law Hop & Cindy Funk.

Ruth will be greatly missed, but our memories of her and her spirit will forever be in our hearts; she will be loved FOREVER and ALWAYS!
