Roy Shelton, 81, died unexpectedly, Sunday May 19, 2024, at the Regional Medical Center, Manchester.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, May 23, 2024, at the Hopkinton Community Church with Interment in the Hopkinton Cemetery. Friends may call after 9:00 AM Thursday at the church. Pastor Jan Lamont will officiate at the services. Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, has taken Roy and his family into their care. Surviving are his wife, Linda, six children, Karen, Lonnie, Kim, Roy Jr. Sandy and Robert, several grandchildren and great- grandchildren, his in-laws, Jeanette Davis and Howard, Bill (LaVonne), Carl (Betty), Duane (Judy) Sternhagen, Rosie (Donnie) Topping, Ann (Tom) Avery. He was preceded in death by his Parents, a daughter Cheryl, a brother Raymond, 2 sisters Rosalie and Ruby, and in-laws Mary Lou Schilling, Judy Sternhagen, Wayne Davis, Adrian Turnis and Francis Schilling.
Roy Levern Shelton was born January 24, 1943, in Cedar Rapids, IA. He was the son of Raymond and Velma Varner, Shelton. Roy attended the Maquoketa, IA Schools. He worked in a nursery as an early job. Roy would spend 42 years at Midland Forge in Cedar Rapids as a machinist. He retired in 2004. He also served as a reserve officer for the Linn County Sheriff’s Office for 12 years. Roy enjoyed John Wayne Movies, the Cubs and Hawkeyes. He especially enjoyed working on and refurbishing bicycles in his shop. He was lovingly called ‘Bicycle Roy.’
