Ronald Sherrets

Ronald Sherrets

Ronald C. Sherrets, age 81, of New Philadelphia died Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at this residence.

Born on January 13, 1941, in Stone Creek, Ohio, he was the son of the later Francis Sherrets and Treva (Gribble) Sherrets Weaver.

Ron graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1959 and joined the US Army where he served in the 82nd Airborne Division.  Following his 1963 honorable discharge from the Army, having achieved the rank of Sergeant, he worked at Timken Company before starting his own painting business.

Ron is probably best known for his subsequent business, The Skate Place, which he opened in 1977.  It was there that he made countless friends (and a few foes) over the years.  He was very proud to have provided the community with a safe and fun atmosphere.  Ron was always pleased when people who skated when they were young later brought their kids and grandkids to skate prior to its closure in 2020.

In what little free time he had, Ron enjoyed golf and playing slot machines.  In his later years he developed a passion for G scale model trains.

Ron is survived by his children, Tracy (Mark) Mead and Amy (Steve Brown) Sherrets; his grandchildren, Kayla Zurcher, Alli Brown and Finn Brown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife Jeanie; four sisters, Wanda Ferris, Shirley Prichard, JoAnn Ricklic and Linda Padgett; and two brothers, Ernest and Carl Sherrets.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2022 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A private family graveside will be held at a later time.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to Carl C. Stoller VFW Post 1445 of New Philadelphia, 441 Park Ave. NW New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
