Ronald M. Roushar

Vinton

Ronald M. Roushar, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Vinton, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, February 22, 2024, at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab in Vinton. He was 85 years old.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday March 9, 2024, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Vinton, with Rev. John Albertson officiating. Private family interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:00 am at the church prior to the service and a luncheon will follow. Memorials can be directed to Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab or Together We Achieve. Ron’s wish is for attendees to wear their Iowa Hawkeye gear, or black and gold, in honor of his favorite sports team.

Ron was born June 16, 1938, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Wilma (Kouba) Roushar. He graduated from Roosevelt High School with the class of 1956. Ron served his Country in the United States Air Force Reserves. On August 29, 1959, he was united in marriage to Patricia Kasak – the love of his life. They were married for 56 years.

Ron and Pat began their married life in Cedar Rapids and moved to rural Vinton for their working years. He worked as a supervisor and Industrial Engineer at Rockwell-Collins from 1956, until retiring in 1994. The couple moved to the Daytona Beach, Florida area in 2008, where he was a volunteer at Halifax Memorial Hospital and continued to live there until Pat’s death in 2016. Ron then returned to Cedar Rapids where he worked for Elmcrest Country Club as a grounds keeper until this past fall.

Ron was a lover of his family, and enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren grow. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching all Iowa Hawkeye sports and Cubs baseball. Ron had an incredible gift of being a handyman – home improvements were his specialty! Ron also had a love of taking drives with his good friend Rosemary Herrington – no set agenda and seemed to know every back road in Iowa – but always knew his way back home.

Ron is survived by his children, Jen (Tom) Schreier of Parrish, Florida, Jackie (Richard) Bear of Vinton, Jeff (Ann) Roushar of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Abby (Charley) Cronk, Alyssa Hilton (Fiancé Brady Silberger) and Jackson Roushar; great-grandchildren, Zoey and Daphne Cronk; Mason Knutson, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Wilma, and his beloved wife, Pat.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Beckie and Chris Naughton for being such great friends, neighbors, and caregivers. They would also like to thank the team at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab for the care they provided in Ron’s final days. They made his Caitlin Clark Watch Party in his room one memory we will never forget.
