Robert J. Kruckenberg, 84, of Lowden, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2023, at the Clarence Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 21, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden, with the Rev. Daniel Redhage officiating. Burial will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until service time at the church.

Robert was born in Lowden, Iowa, on Aug. 2, 1939, the youngest of seven children of Paul and Selma (Licht) Kruckenberg. He was baptized into the Christian faith on Aug. 27, 1939, and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church on March 29, 1953, where he was a lifelong member. He held several positions there, including treasurer and financial secretary, and sang in the choirs for more than 60 years.

Robert attended Trinity Lutheran School for eight years and graduated from Lowden High School in 1957. He farmed together with his brother Merlon until moving to a new home in Lowden in late 2014. On the farm they raised corn and beans, and he worked hard tending to the hogs that they raised farrow to finish. He also took special care and pride in his orchard of fruit trees that usually produced delicious apples, pears, and peaches. He enjoyed traveling, including trips to Europe, Florida, Wyoming, and especially to Branson and Nashville. He loved country music and enjoyed practicing and playing his guitar.

Robert is survived by his sister, Lorna (Waldemar) Bergdolt of Perryville, Mo.; 10 nieces and nephews; and 18 great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Merlon, Norbert and his wife, Bonnie, and George; and sisters, Roberta and Leanne and her husband, Leonard Sellnau.
