Robert “Dave” David Rowell, 78 of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a sudden illness on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Teahen Funeral Home. Friends may visit with the family after 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Dave is survived by his wife of 51 years, Therese Rowell; daughter, Lindsay (Lucas) Boeke of Huntley, IL; two grandchildren, Ella and Addison; two brothers, Mark (Tami) Rowell and William (Sherry) Rowell and one sister, Lois (David) Bailey.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Sally, father and mother-in-law, William and Pauline Reid and brother-in-law Paul Reid.

Robert David Rowell was born on August 28, 1945 son of Robert and Flozella “Sally” (King) Rowell in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Washington High school in 1963 and attended the University of Iowa. Dave was a journeyman printer at the Gazette before and after his military service. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1965 to 1971. Dave was united in marriage to Therese Reid on June 10, 1972 at the Calvin Sinclair Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids. Dave worked as a police officer for the Cedar Rapids Police Department for 30 years retiring in 2005 as a lieutenant.

Dave enjoyed trout fishing, riding bikes with Therese, reading books by Grisham and Patterson and taking care of his immaculate lawn and garden. Dave and Lindsey were lucky participants of the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight 37 on September 17, 2019 with other military veterans. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan, attending many games. Dave loved spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters and looked forward to family visits where they played board games and cards.

Memorials may be directed to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church or the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Surgical and Neurosciences ICU Department.
