Robert “Bob” Suchomel, 97, of Tipton, Iowa, passed away May 9, 2023, at Cedar Manor Nursing Home in Tipton. Funeral services are 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 17, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tipton, with visitation 2 hours prior to the service. Burial will take place at St. Bridget’s Cemetery, Nolan Settlement, following the service. Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com.

Bob was born March 26, 1926, on the family farm near Cedar Bluff, Iowa, to Amos and Blanche (Krupna) Suchomel. He had one brother and six sisters. He attended country school and after finishing grade school, he attended Tipton High School and graduated in 1944.

Bob loved to dance. He met Vivian Fall of Olin at Hi-Way Gardens Ballroom in Stanwood. They were married on Sept. 10, 1946, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. They farmed with Bob’s father and brother for 22 years before purchasing their own farm near Cedar Bluff in 1968. They retired and moved to Tipton in 1990.

Bob served as a 4-H leader, served on the voting board for Cass township, served on the Cedar County Extension Council, was a member of the Tipton Lions Club, received the Warren Coleman Honorary Award for Service to Lionism, received Outstanding Volunteer Award in Cedar County from the Heritage Agency on Aging, and served on the Tipton Senior Center Board. He was elected to and served for 12 years on the Cedar County Board of Supervisors. Bob loved hunting, fishing, playing cards and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bob is survived by his children Terry Suchomel of Iowa City, Nancy (Doug) Schneider of Marion, Roger (Beckie) Suchomel of North Liberty, Jeff (Jodi) Suchomel of Tipton, and Steven Suchomel of West Branch; grandchildren Chris (Teresa) Suchomel of Iowa City, Cathy (Christian) Kaplicki of Glendale, Ariz., Kevin (Aleah) Suchomel of Iowa City, Tim Schneider of Spring Hill, Kan., Lori (Chris) Gobris of Appleton, Wis., Jama Suchomel of Los Angeles, Calif., Rachel (Joe) Goedkin of Ottumwa, and Meritt (Tim) Kallous of Ankeny; stepgrandchildren Erica (Scott) Vejrostek of Little Elm, Texas, BreAnna (Justin) Locker of North Liberty and Mitch Moon of Tulsa, Okla.; greatgrandchildren Ethan, Evan, Max, Grace, Nicolas, Graham, Silas, Ella Rose, Alli, Brynlee, Sofia, Isabella, Hazel, Rosemary and Everett; stepgreat-grandchildren Eli, Liam, Luke, Jax and Jade; sister Marlene Zearing of Ames; and many nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife Vivian; brother William Suchomel; sisters Irene Gibbons, Lillian Suchomel, Marcella Netolicky, Betty Compton, and Mary Jean Johnson, and great-grandson Connor.

Memorials may be directed to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Tipton.
