Robert “Bob” C. Lee

Robert “Bob” Lee passed away peacefully on March 22, 2021 after 72 years of an exceptional and giving life. He recently met the many challenges of Lewy Body Disease with quiet fortitude, strength and bravery.

Bob was predeceased by the absolute love of his life, Susan, in 2016 who made the life-changing decision to pick him up hitchhiking in Wilmette 56 years ago. Bob was the loving and invested father of Beccy (Dave) Gurion and Katie (Merrick) Shapiro and the proud grandfather of Grace, Kate, Olivia and Kylie. He also leaves his sister, Corinne (Bill) McClintic, and two brothers, Richard (Terry) and Stephen. Bob was an example and guiding force to his nieces and nephews who loved and adored him. He was the loving son of the late Leo Paul and Catherine Lee and son-in-law of Earl and Hellen Waterstradt. Bob was embraced by and very fortunate to be a part of the Waterstradt extended family and treasured his sister- and brother-in-laws and their lovely children and grandchildren.

Bob had a zest for life that was beyond comparison. He was always enthused about all that was put in his path, whether it be work, fun, food, fishing, soccer, or the Bears. Bob adored his family and always put them first. He and Sue were devoted fans of their children and grandchildren and were a constant presence at the sidelines of many soccer and volleyball games and gymnastics competitions. They made close and loving friends wherever they went.

Bob’s quick mind and intellect enabled him to have a very successful career in Banking throughout Chicago. Throughout his working life, Bob touched many lives and helped others to navigate their careers and personal lives. Bob was a natural teacher, mentor and problem solver who always was there to quietly help and resolve issues.

We would be remiss to not mention Bob’s incredible sense of humor and ability to tease others in a fun way. He truly never met a stranger and always put an immediate smile on everyone’s face. Bob always made a challenging situation better and brought a positive and loving attitude to the world. He was really a very gentle soul who found love everywhere and was a champion of and hero to many.

Bob was all things Loyola and a true man for others, being a proud graduate of Loyola Academy, who went on to get his undergraduate and Masters in Business Administration from Loyola University in Chicago. He will forever be behind them in basketball from above this year and going forward. Bob also served in the United States Army Reserve where he met some of his closest friends.

We plan to celebrate Bob and a life well-lived at a Visitation on Tuesday March 30th, 3PM to 7PM, Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E Northwest Highway, Palatine.
