Robert A. Koester

Robert A. Koester, 91, died on Friday, March 26, 2021 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born February 10, 1930 in Glen Ellyn, IL to Erwin Otto and Flora Ludeke Koester. He married Marjorie Hertel on June 6, 1959 and she preceded him in death on June 7, 2020. Also preceding him in death are his parents; one brother, Russell Koester; and two sisters, Evelyn Wesbrock and Dorothy Twining.

Survivors include one daughter, Nancy (Scot) Edsinga of Arizona; one son, Jeffrey (Coleen) Koester of Chatham; four granddaughters, Nicole (Darren), Janel (Aaron), Zoey and Lexy; and nine great-grandchildren, Jaden, Allie, Graham, Marcie, Cole, Sadie, Miranda, Kylie and Lily.

Robert attended Dartmouth College receiving his degree in education. He was a Staff Sergeant with the United States Air Force and served in the Korean War. He worked at Rock Island Arsenal as a machinist. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Graveside Service: 1 PM, Monday, April 5, 2021 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Pastors Greg Busboom and Pam Mitcham officiating. Military honors will also be conducted.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church – Springfield.
