Richard Thomas Mattsson

Richard Thomas Mattsson, 87, of Springfield, passed away on December 9, 2022 at home. He was born on February 3, 1935 to Elmer J. Mattsson and Agnes L. Lein and they preceded him in death. He married Jeanette E. Stickel and she survives.

Also surviving are his children, son, Timothy (Christie) Mattsson and daughters Deborah Guy (Artie Hatfield) and Karen O’Brien, ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Mary Jane (Tom) Lundsgaard of Washington State and Margi (Gary) Stueve of Ohio.

Dick retired as Director of Purchasing at the University of Illinois-Springfield. He was a member of Springfield Elks Lodge #158 for over 60 years where he served as Exalted Ruler, Secretary, Treasurer and Trustee. He is also a past President and Hall of Fame Member of the Greater Springfield Bowling Association. He served his country as a Legal Clerk in the 8th Army in Korea.

He was also preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey W. Mattsson, brother, John L. Mattsson and nephew Johnnie Mattsson.

As per him and his family, no services will be held. Burial will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Elks Children’s Corporation.
