Richard H. Amacher

Richard H. Amacher, 75, of New Philadelphia, passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2022 in Community Hospice Truman House at New Philadelphia.
Born in Dover, he was the son of the late Ernst and Pauline (Winkelman) Amacher and a 1966 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. Richard was an honorably discharged veteran having served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War and had worked for over 34 years with the former Goshen Dairy Company at New Philadelphia and then retired from Smith Dairy after an additional seven years of employment.
A longtime member of Jerusalem Church at New Philadelphia, Richard had formerly served as a Deacon and was a member of the New Philadelphia VFW Post 1445. An avid sports fan, he followed both the New Philadelphia Quakers and Ohio State Buckeyes. In addition to sports, Richard loved going to casinos and playing cards with his family. Every Sunday he would gather with his family where they would play Hand and Foot Canasta.
Richard is survived by three sisters, Betty Lou Hurst, Carol Sue LeMasters, and Doris Jean Bailey; his brother, Ernest J. Amacher, Jr., all of New Philadelphia and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a great-great nephew.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Winkelman, and a nephew.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 11, 2022 from 3 to 6 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia. A service celebrating Richard’s life will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2022 beginning at 10:30 am in Jerusalem Church at New Philadelphia with Rev. Dr. Tom Hendershot officiating. Burial will be in Jerusalem Church Cemetery at New Philadelphia where the New Philadelphia VFW will provide military honors.
The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to either the Jerusalem Church Building Fund, 1417 Stone Creek Road SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663, or Community Hospice, Truman House, 716 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
