Gale Allen Nehring

Beloved husband and uncle, Gale Allen Nehring died November 3, 2022 at the age of 94. He was born at home in Hinckley, Illinois September 10, 1928 to his parents Lawrence and Elizabeth (Clark) Nehring.

Gale lived his entire life in Hinckley and was proud to see the village flourish over the years. As a kid, he peddled papers, delivered electric bills, set pins at the 4-lane bowling alley located in the basement of a local business.  He graduated from Hinckley High School in 1946.  After graduation he worked for his family’s business for 61 years from 1946 to 2007, except for the 2 years from 1950 to 1952 that he spent serving as a Corporal in the United States Army in the Korean war.  He maintained a continuous membership in the American Legion for 70 years.

Gale became of volunteer fireman for the Hinckley Fire Department in 1946 and served for 65 years including 18 years as Fire Chief and 24 years on the Fire Department’s Board of Trustees.  He was instrumental in the building of a new fire station for his beloved village in 2005.  He also served as a member of the village’s Community Building board.

Gale was a quiet, soft-spoken, loving and caring man who treasured his family and friends.  He enjoyed working in the yard and loved cars and trucks of all sorts. He was also an avid hunter and enjoyed all sports including basketball, softball, golf (3 holes in one), but really excelled as a bowler.  He was a life member of the Tiger Athletic Association in Aurora, Illinois, and a long-time member of Indian Oaks Golf Course in Shabbonna, Illinois, and a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Hinckley.

He married the love of his life and best friend, Marilyn (Tuma) Nehring October 3, 1981 and they always felt like newlyweds.  They shared 41 years enjoying their common love of sports, family, winters in Arizona and living in love.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Tuma) Nehring; nephew, Steve (Diane) Nehring; niece, Christine Nehring Burnett; sister-in-law, Sharon Galyean; brother-in-law, Roland (Linda) Tuma; and many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.

He is proceeded in death by his parents; brother, Gerald Clark Nehring; sister-in-law, Irene Nehring; brothers-in-law, Gary Tuma and Preston Galyean; and caregiver and special friend Gretchen Ochsenschlager.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at the Nash-Nelson Memorial Chapel, 141 North Maple Street, Hinckley, IL. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in Hinckley, IL.

Friends may visit from 4:00 until 7:00 PM on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at the Funeral Home in Hinckley, IL.
