Reuben Foster Powell III

Reuben Foster Powell III

Reuben was born in Maracaibo, Venezuela. His father was in oil and this afforded him great adventures in Sumatra, Tripoli, Cairo, and Athens. He attended the American University in Cairo before transferring to Oklahoma University. He was fairly fluent in Arabic, just enough to stay out of trouble. As a little kid, he enjoyed “exploring” the jungle of Sumatra (looking for snakes and tigers) and exploring the abandoned underground bunkers of WWII (until Daddy found out).He loved riding motorcycles and enjoyed his travels to the Hill Country especially.

He was very proud of his father’s wartime stories and read about WWII voraciously. He was also very proud of his Sicilian heritage (mother was first generation). He is preceded in death by his parents: Reuben Foster Powell Jr., and Mary Veda Scoma Powell. Although he never married, he is survived by his sister, LaCelle Powell Howard, his niece, Sharon Yvette Howard, his nephew, Robert Brandon Howard, great nephew Ryan Brandon Howard, and great niece, Victory Ann. He will be missed. He made friends easily and was a good friend.
