Phyllis loved and lived for her grandchildren.

Phyllis was born on Aug. 8, 1935, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Fred and Alice (Jakoubek) Stodola. She graduated from Saint Wenceslaus High School in 1953. Phyllis was a lifetime member of Saint Wenceslaus Church and a 50-plus year member of the Saint Wenceslaus Choir.

On Oct. 27, 1956, she was married to Lloyd Oliver at Saint Wenceslaus.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father; brother, Robert; sister-in-law, Nancy; and her husband, Lloyd.

Phyllis will be remembered as a kind and giving person who always put the needs and wants of others ahead of her own. As an example, her children lovingly recall Phyllis working at the old JC Penney store in downtown Cedar Rapids on Monday and Thursday evenings over the Christmas season during their youth. She used all of the money she earned and her employee discount to ensure that all of the Oliver kids had a nice Christmas. We did not realize this until adulthood. She was the consummate example of what it means to be a ‘Giver’. We Love You Mom!

The family would like to thank Mercy Hospital, Hospice of Mercy and Father Jim Brokman for bringing our Mom comfort during her time of need. Our family would like to extend Many Blessings to you all for your kindness and care.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice House of Mercy in Cedar Rapids.

A private family service and burial has been planned.
