Philip “Mick” Henry Sheridan, Jr.

Philip “Mick” Henry Sheridan, Jr., 91, of Springfield, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2022 under the outstanding care of the Concordia Village Care Center.

Phil was born November 29, 1930, in Chicago, IL. He was the first-born son of Philip H. and Mary Ellen (Shallcross) Sheridan, Sr.

He married Jessie E. Benson on August 3, 1957 and was happily married for 52 years before she passed in 2009. He was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Pete and Chuck Sheridan.

Phil enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in St. John’s Newfoundland, Canada where he met the love of his life, Jessie. He came back to the US to pursue pilot training. He truly enjoyed being a pilot in the service but was in a serious car accident that landed him in the hospital for a year. Because of Phil’s injuries, piloting, unfortunately, became a thing of the past. After Phil healed, he called Jessie and proposed marriage. He then became an Air Force recruiter and retired after 24 years of service as a Master Sargent from 1951–1974. His “retirement job” was selling Allstate Insurance for 24 years and golfing as much as he could. Phil was a “Die Hard” Cubs fan so 2016 was a very good year! Besides golf, he enjoyed bowling, swimming, reading, and watching TV. When he could no longer golf, he enjoyed having “2 Beer Friday” at Brookhills Golf Club with his friend Glen.

Phil loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed entertaining everyone with his humor and lifetime stories. He always had a smile on his face and a positive attitude and in turn, put a smile on everyone else’s face.

Survivors include two daughters, Donna (Ramone) Noska of Benicia, CA and Gale (John) Richardson of Springfield; five grandchildren, Bridgette (Adam) Gimpert, J.P. (Kristina) Richardson, Brooke (fiancé, Brandon Dickson) Noska, Tyson (Jennifer) Noska, and Casey Noska; four great-grandchildren, Amelia and Felix Gimpert and Jack and Will Richardson; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
