Paula Jean Litchfield passed away on Friday, April 2, 2021, at the age of 76 in her hometown of Springfield, Illinois. Paula was born on October 14, 1944 to James Rice Litchfield and Velma Marie Litchfield (Vaughn) at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois. Paula is preceded in death by her parents, James and Velma, and her only sibling, James Dudley Litchfield, of St. Louis, Missouri. Paula is survived by her only child, Wendy Hinton Vaughn, and her son-in-law, Robert Lawrence Jones, of Rockford, Illinois.
Paula graduated with the Class of 1962 from Lanphier High School, where she was a Lanphier Lions Letter Girl. Paula lived in Beasley, Texas for almost nineteen years, where she worked at the Richmond State School in Richmond, Texas. Paula returned to Springfield in 2000 and retired in 2018, after over fifteen years of service at Idemia Identity & Security USA (formerly OT-Morpho).
Paula loved her two dogs, Selah and Ethan, who lived to be sixteen years old. As a creative person, Paula used her artistic talents to decorate cakes, make quilts, create crafts, and crochet scarves for family members and local charities. Paula attended West Side Christian Church. She was an avid gardener who enjoyed tending flowers in her yard and visiting the beauty of nearby Washington Park. In her later years, Paula enjoyed doing puzzles and relaxing at home with Selah and Ethan, her faithful canine companions.
Minister Mike Harney of West Side Christian Church will deliver a graveside service on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Virden Cemetery located at 19220 Cemetery Road, Virden, Illinois 62690. Please wear masks, practice social distancing, and follow all CDC protocols for health and safety.
All expressions of sympathy are welcome, including memorial contributions in Memory of Paula to W.I.L.D. Canine Rescue located at 3309 Robbins Road, #109, Springfield, IL 62704.
