On Tuesday, March 14, 2023, Patricia “Pat” Christie Conlon, loving wife and mother of three, passed away peacefully at home, at the age of 88.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, March 24, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, with Father Joseph Sia officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the funeral, in the Church Social Hall. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or to your favorite local high school athletic booster club.

Pat was born on Aug. 5, 1934, in Carroll, Iowa, to Marmaduke (Duke) and Catherine (Hartman) Christie. Pat was a standout basketball player at Fonda High School where she graduated in 1952. Pat attended College of St. Teresa’s in Minnesota for two years before transferring to the University of Iowa, where she received her elementary education degree in 1956. She taught at the American Dependent Schools in Berlin, Germany for two years, University Hospital and Hoover Elementary in Iowa City. In 1957, she married Donald (Pinky) Conlon and together they raised three children, Michael, Michele and Patrick “PJ.”

Pat valued her connections with schools through her involvement in the ICCSD Booster Club, Gammi Phi Beta Sorority and the University of Iowa Parent Committee. She enjoyed participating in PEO, the Four Season’s Dance Club, and especially treasured her bridge club ladies for over 50 years. Pat was known for entertaining at her home and as an avid sports fan was a Iowa football ticket holder since the 1960s and, most recently, Women’s Basketball. One of the greatest joys of her life was supporting her children and grandchildren in their sports and activities.

Pat is survived by her three children, Michael, Michele and PJ (Shelly) all of Iowa City; and three grandchildren, Mackenzie and partner, Jack Edeker; Michael and fiance, Greyson Dumont; and Claire; and grand-dogs, Winnie and Junior.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Pinky.

The family would like to thank Dr. Craig Champion and Mercy Hospital for her lifelong care and the doctors and staff at UIHC.
