Obituary: Shirley Jean Bouer Whitcome 1931-2023

Shirley Jean Bouer Whitcome died November 12, 2023, at Carson Tahoe Hospital. She was 92 years old. Shirley was born on March 12, 1931, in Twin Falls, Idaho. Her family relocated many times during her childhood and in 1948 she graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Los Angeles. She settled in Carson City in 1951, living here for 72 years.
Shirley married Daniel L. Whitcome on September 7, 1954, and together they raised four daughters. Shirley was very active in the community belonging to the First United Methodist Church, Beta Sigma Phi sorority and P.E.O. She was instrumental in developing and publishing the Community Resource Guide for Older Adults which was first printed in 1999.
Shirley is survived by her daughters Gail (Hugh) Linstrom, Christine Whitcome, Lori (Kevin) Davies, Marta (Kerry) Garcia, seven grandchildren and 7 1/2 great grandchildren.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, John and Rowena Bouer, her husband Daniel Whitcome, sister Jackie Matz, and granddaughters Kendra Linstrom and Kara Davies.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests donations in Shirley’s memory be made to one of her favorite charities: Multiple Sclerosis Society at P.O. Box 54879, Los Angeles, CA 90054; First United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund, 400 King Street Suite 100, Carson City, Nevada 89703, or St Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
The memorial service for Shirley will be held December 2, 2023, at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Carson City.
