Obituary: Fredrick “Rick” Cypher

Fredrick “Rick” Cypher was born July 2, 1947 in Paterson, NJ; he passed away October 12, 2023 in Thornton, CO at age 76.

Rick grew up by “The Jersey Shore” in Toms River, NJ. He is survived by his two younger brothers – Cliff (sister-in-law, Barbara) and Brian (sister-in-law, Ellen); his two sons – Jason (daughter-in-law, Monica); Granddaughter, Makena; and Danny (daughter-in-law, Lori).

He enlisted in the United States Army in January 1966 and completed two tours of duty during the Vietnam War.

Rick began his career in law enforcement with the Ontario, CA Police Department. He later moved his family to Lake Tahoe, where he became a Sheriff’s Deputy for Placer County, CA. In 1981 he moved to Carson City, NV and worked for Nevada Division of Investigations, retiring as Deputy Chief in 2002. One of several notable accomplishments in his career was graduating from the FBI National Academy (Session 172) in Quantico, Virginia.

There will be a Celebration of Life held on Saturday, June 1, 11:00am – 2:00pm at the home of Jack and Char (Cypher) Foerschler, 5505 Golden Eagle Lane, Carson City.
