Nora Mae Clark Hallmark

Nora Mae Clark Hallmark, 106, of Springfield, died July 14, 2022 in Sherman. She was the daughter of Harry and Clara Shaffer. She married Carl Clark, who died in 1963, and later married Daniel Hallmark, who died in 1991. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Joyce (infant) and Carol Chastain, and a son, Robert Clark.

Nora was employed for 23 years by the State of Illinois, Department of Public Aid. Growing up, she was an active member of Harvard Park Baptist Church and, returning later, played the organ and was a member of the Silver Tones. For many years, she was a volunteer for Contact Ministries, the Senior Center, Williamsville Senior Service Center, and others. In 1989, Nora was elected to the Senior Citizen Hall of Fame for the city of Springfield and received the Volunteer of the Year award from Contact Ministries.

Through her long life, Nora was a steady presence and an inspiration to her family and others. Those who knew her greatly appreciated her effectiveness and common sense. Her wisdom and support will be missed by many.

Nora enjoyed music and was the organist for Williamsville Christian Church for many years, including playing for many weddings. She was an avid reader and continued to enjoy reading books until her death. In her later years, Nora enjoyed an active social life at Brenden Gardens, a senior independent living facility in Springfield, where she relished participating in activities like bingo, cards, and dominos.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary (Gary) Marrs of Aurora, Illinois, and Nancy Clark of Fort Myers, Florida, along with eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

A memorial gathering will be held from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, Monday, July 25, 2022 at Cherry Hills Church followed by a memorial service at 12:00 pm.
