Nick Margellos, 93, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2022. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, with a Trisagion Service beginning at 7 p.m. Funeral Service: 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 11, at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Nick was born April 8, 1929, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Panagioti and Giannoula (Kaperonis) Margellos. He graduated from Sioux Falls High School and went on to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Business from Augustana College in Sioux Falls. Nick served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army from 1951-53 during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Demetra “Tula” S. Karavas on May 10, 1959, in Lincoln, Neb. Nick worked at Rockwell Collins for 29 1/2 years until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and AHEPA. He went on the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight in September of 2019 with his daughter Tina, which was very memorable.

Nick was a kind, caring and loving husband, father and Papou, who always had a smile on his face and could talk and joke with anyone. He was an avid reader, golfer and bowler, and he loved his mocha macchiatos and going on coffee dates with his granddaughter, Anastasia. Nick enjoyed singing in the Golden Warblers group and always sang and danced around the house. He loved going to Saturday breakfast with family and friends. Nick enjoyed time spent running weekly errands and doing many projects with his daughter. He always enjoyed a good Greek Festival.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Tula Margellos of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Tina Margellos of Cedar Rapids; son, Pete (Lori) Margellos of Cedar Rapids; granddaughters, Anastasia Margellos of Cedar Rapids and Madison Lockwood of Chicago, Ill.; sister, Anthe Kollias of Muncie, Ind.; sister-in-law, Elaine Poulos of Council Bluffs, Iowa; brother-in-law, Adam (Sandy) Karavas of Lincoln, Neb.; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Koukla.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Panagioti and Giannoula Margellos; son, John “Ziggy” Margellos; sister, Billie Igo; brother-in-law, John Poulos; and beloved dog, Sassy.
