Nelda Jane Tandy

Nelda Jane Tandy was called home by her Savior, Jesus, on March 17, 2022. Nelda was born August 26, 1943, in Gideon, Missouri to Oval A. Martin and Elsie J. Richey Martin. She graduated from High School at Los Fresnos, Texas in 1961. She graduated from Texas A&M in Kingsville, Texas in 1965 with a B.S. with honors. Later in life she got her Masters at Sul-Ross University, in Alpine, Texas and she got her LPC license as well. She taught school for 34 years in Fort Worth, Sweetwater, and Odessa, Texas. She was an excellent teacher and loved by her students because they knew she cared about them.

Nelda was a loving Mother, Wife, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. She is survived by her husband: Michael J. Tandy; son: Jon A. Tandy; daughter: Jennifer L. Jimenez; grandchild: Hailey L. Mendez; great grandchild: Kinsley C. Mendez.

Nelda was preceded in death by her parents: Oval and Elsie Martin; sister: Shirley Wyatt; youngest son: Jason M. Tandy.

Nelda accepted Jesus as her Savior when she was 8 years old. She served Him faithfully over the years. She was a Sunday school teacher to youth in Fort Worth and Odessa. As a Rotary wife she hosted many foreign exchange students; as a faithful Baptist believer, she hosted many friends from church in her home over the years. Nelda was an excellent cook, loved to share her talents and she could sew anything and did over the years. She was very giving in all areas of life. Nelda loved gardening and her plants. She especially loved time with her husband, Mike, as they started dating when she was a sophomore (he was a junior) in high school. They both graduated from college and then married on July 31, 1965.

Any memorial would be appreciated, but please consider the First Baptist Church Forward building campaign or a charity of your choice, in lieu of flowers.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2pm on Friday, March 25, 2022, at First Baptist Church Glen Rose. A lie in state will be held from 9am until 6pm on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, and Thursday, March 24, 2022, at Wiley Funeral Home in Glen Rose. A private graveside will be held.
