N. Robert “Bob” Chesnut, 92 of Springfield, died at 11:15 pm, Monday, May 16, 2022 at The Bridge Care Suites. He was born June 26, 1929 in Springfield, to Dr. Nelson H. and Mildred Holland Chesnut.
Survivors include one daughter, Sr. Mary Faustina Chesnut, OSF of East Peoria; one brother, Richard H. Chesnut of Springfield; one niece, Dianne (Gene) Gyure of Springfield; one great niece Amanda (Kyle) Koestner.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bob was a US Army Veteran serving during the Korean War.
He retired from St. Francis Convent where he worked for more than 20 years in maintenance and the kitchen. He also worked as an x-ray technician.
He was an avid history buff and was a member of the NRA, the 114th Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment; Sons of the American Revolution; Society of the War of 1812 and was Past Commander of
Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War and a member of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States.
Visitation: 10:30 – 11:30 am, Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Service: 11:30 am, Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield, with Pastor Ron Waltrip officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where Military Honors will be conducted.
