Salvatore P. Madonia

Salvatore P. Madonia, 96, of Springfield, died at 11:24 am, Monday, May 16, 2022 at Springfield Memorial Hospital. He was born December 9, 1925 in Springfield, to Joseph and Frances Sgro Madonia. He married Frances Gum on January 13, 1951 and she preceded him in death in 1993.

Survivors include longtime companion, Maria Haynes of Springfield and her family; five sisters, Lucia Midiri of Springfield, Nena Rothe of St. Louis, MO, Josephine Romang of Springfield, Theresa Nicastro of St. Louis, MO and Margaret Passeri of Naples, FL; two sisters-in-law, Roseanne Madonia of Bloomington and Sandra Madonia of Naples, FL and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters, Rosalie Guarella and Mary Nestler and four brothers, Vincent, Frank, Andrea and John Madonia.

Salvatore was a 1940 graduate of SS. Peter and Paul Grade School and a 1944 graduate of Springfield High School. He is also a graduate of the University of Illinois. He was a US Navy Veteran and retried from the State of Illinois where he worked as a Chemist for 30 years. He was a member of Christ the King Church, Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen of North America.

Visitation: 9:30 – 10:30 am, Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at Christ the King Church.

Funeral Mass: 10:30 am, Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at Christ the King Church with Reverend Christopher House officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities or the American Cancer Society.
