Mildred Martin
- February 14, 2022
Mildred Elliott Martin transitioned to meet her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 8, 2022.
Mildred was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on August 26,1933, to Edward and Lucinda Elliott. She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and rededicated her life to Christ when she joined Fellowship Baptist Church where she served as a faithful member for 50 years. Mildred attended New York City schools and graduated in 1951.
She married Clifford Stevens Sr., in 1952 and out of their union three children were born: Vedia, Clifford Jr., and Phillip.
Mildred started her career with Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio in 1964. She proudly worked as a microbiology lab technologist for 32 years. Mildred loved serving at various churches in her community, as a dedicated choir member, usher, and member of the Mother’s Board at Shiloh Baptist Church and Fellowship Baptist Church.
In her spare time, Mildred loved traveling, watching sports, cooking, shopping, fashion, attending community events at the Maple Heights Senior Center, and spending time with her family and friends. Mildred was affectionately known for her humor and often “firecracker” wit amongst family and friends.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Lucinda Elliott, and previous husbands, Clifford Stevens Sr., and Charles Martin Sr. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memories, her children, Vedia Satchel, Clifford Stevens Jr., and Phillip (Barretta) Stevens; step-son, Charles (Gloria) Martin Jr.; grandchildren, Alysia Satchel, Kristen (Rashad) Smalls, and Phillip Stevens Jr.; step-grandchildren, Dominique (Terrence) Shumate, and Derick (Morgan) Todd; great-grandchildren, Rashad Smalls Jr., and Aiyanna Smalls, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mildred was loved beyond measure and will be deeply missed by all.
