Michael James Aebel

Michael J. Aebel, 51 of Riverton, died on Sunday, April 30, 2023 in Pike County, Illinois. He was born March 12, 1972 in Springfield, to James and Caryl Drennan Aebel. He married Shawn Burge on September 10, 1994 and she survives.
Also surviving are two children; Erin (Trevor) Birdsell of Ashland and Michael Dean (Tory) Aebel of Springfield; his parents, James and Caryl Aebel of Sherman; one sister, Kathryn (Scott) Groesch of Webster Groves, MO; three grandchildren, Ross James Birdsell, Renlee Dean Birdsell, and Violet Kathryn Aebel; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins and his two dogs, Briar and Montana.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Victor and Agnes Aebel and John and Lolly Drennan; one uncle, Bill Drennan; mother and father-in-law, Jan and Dean Burge; one brother-in-law, Brian Burge and two cousins, Jason McCormick and Theresa Dodge.
Michael is a lifelong resident of Riverton and graduated from Riverton High School, Class of 1990.
He owned and operated Aebel Construction and had previously worked for Buraski Builders.
He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, camping, and fishing. He was a music fan, especially Metallica and KISS. Michael liked to watch NASCAR and was a Dale Earnhardt, Jr. fan.
Most of all he loved spending as much time as possible with his children and family, especially his grandbabies.
The family will be hosting a Celebration of Michael’s Life beginning at 4 pm, Friday, May 5, 2023 at the Riverton Knights of Columbus Hall, 335 S. 4th St., Riverton, IL 62561.
