Mary Virginia Brunson
- October 8, 2021
Mary Virginia Brunson, a true Taurus was born May 3, 1939 at Grady Memorial Hospital (Grady Baby) to the late Wallace Williams and Jessie Bell Williams. She graduated from South High School, Akron, Ohio.
Loved by so many; she was a best friend to her daughter who kept everything totally transparent.
She was a member of the New Trinity Baptist Church under the guidance of the late Pastor Samuel Johnson.
She was known for her name brand attire and wore it very well.
Mary Virginia’s first job was working at St. Thomas Hospital as a Nurse Aide. She then transferred into general labor at BFG, Weaver Schools, GE and later retiring from Dirt Devil – many times working two jobs at a time, never missing a day of work. Her vacation was working overtime.
Mary “Virginia” has received her wings and has joined her husband and best friend of 47 years, Paul Thomas Brunson, who were married on April 18th, 1974.
She was best known for her pound cake and dressing and the casino was where you could find her when she went missing (literally).
She was a Member of the Social Club which consisted of Six Wonderful Women – together for over 20 years – Pearlie Clark, Estelle Millender, Susan Lester, Carrie Simmons, Mavis Dubose and Cora Norwood, who were well known in the community for their dinners that they would sell, organized bus trips for whoever wanted to travel and have fun, and also gave many, many cabarets.
Mary “Virginia” is preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Jesse Williams; siblings, James Williams, Morris Williams, Ruby McClenic, Wallace Wynn Williams Jr., Eddie Williams and Bobby Ann Ridgeway; step-daughter, Yasmin Brunson; grandsons, Larry Brunson (who she raised as a son) and Troy Brunson.
Now she is back with those who loved her just as much as we did here on earth – what a beautiful transition it was.
She leaves to cherish her memory forever and always: her daughter, Cherie Jenkins – her one and only; grandchildren, Christian – who was more or less like her other child, Marc Jr., Micaela, Aleigha, Justin Jenkins, Laricia Brunson, Chlaricsa Boykin, Clarence and his lovely wife Tiffany Boykin – who aided with assisting their grandmother most recently; great grandchildren, Shawntaya Brunson – who was always her support and caregiver, Joshua and Levi Wilkes, Avannah and Sanai Leach, John and Ayana Brunson, Autavia Jones, Mycah Boykin, Avion Walls, Yasmin, Jordin, Jaydin, Jaxin, Jayceein and Journii Boykin and Nina Jean; great-great grandchildren, Victor Singfield Jr., JaVonte Boykin, Loyalty Jones, Myesha, Trinity, Kamora, Jon’nae and John Jr. Brunson, Mikyah Taylor, Aarieal Davis, Janae and Jason Gates and Chase Reeves; a special friend; a special son, K.T.; a best friend and sister ‘til the end, Dafney Hawkins; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
