Mary T. Sutton

Mary T. Sutton, 76, of Springfield passed away on Friday, January 7, 2022 at Springfield Memorial Hospital. She was born on January 23, 1945 to John Mitchell and Addine (McKinney) Washington and they prceded her in death.
She is also preceded in death by her fifteen sisters, six brothers, and one granddaughter, Taylor Houston.
She is survived by two children, Erma Sutton and Ben (Tracy) Sutton both of Springfield; six grandchildren, Anthony Sutton, Terry Brown, Cornelius Brown, Destiny Higgerson, Ben Sutton, Jr., and Jaiden Sutton; four stepchildren, Bobby Granderson of Memphis, TN, Rodney Ransom of Cahokia, IL, Dale and Michael Granderson both of Springfield; eighteen great-grandchildren; one great great grandson and nine stepgrandchildren; one sister Margie (James) Hatcher-Moy of Springfiled; special friend, Marie Hampton of Springfield, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was a resident of Springfield since 1968, worked at Horace Mann for 25 years until her retirement at which time she worked in custodial care. Following retirement, Mary went on to be a foster parent, and bus monitor. She was a lifetime member of New Jerusalum Missionary Baptist Church, enjoyed being with her family, dancing and music.
A private family visitation is being held.
Funeral service: 10 am, Saturday, January 15, 2022 at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 1429 South 17th St., Springfield, IL with Reverend Jery Jones officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist.
CDC protocol shall be followed.
