Mary Ludmila Reu, 92, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2025. Mass of Christian Burial: 10 a.m. Monday, February 17, 2025 at St. Jude Catholic Church by Rev. Nick March. Burial: St. John’s Cemetery. A Vigil Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 16, 2025 at Teahen Funeral Home. Those not attending the Vigil Service may visit with the family from 2:30 to 4 p.m. or after 9 a.m. on Monday before the mass.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Lisa (Mark) Snively of Ashland, Ohio, and Janice (Jody) Strand of Toddville; sons, Joseph Reu of Fairfax and Steve Reu (Pam Kean) of Monticello; 8 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; sister, Sr. Rose Ann Trzil, O.S.F. of Milwaukee; and sister-in-law, Phyillis Trzil of Marion.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; grandson, Paxton Snively; and 2 brothers, Rev. Louis Trzil and Jerome Trzil.
Mary was born on September 16, 1932, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Louis and Georgia Nejdl Trzil. She graduated from St. Wenceslaus High School and received a nursing degree from Mt. Mercy College, starting her career at Mercy Hospital in the operating room. On September 22, 1962, Mary married Robert Reu in Cedar Rapids. She stepped away from nursing to raise her family. In 1981, she became the Director of Nursing for Meth-Wick Manor (Meth-Wick Community), retiring in 2000. Mary dedicated countless hours to volunteering at St. Vincent DePaul and was an active member of St. Jude Catholic Church. She served as a Eucharistic Minister and visited the sick and dying.
Mary enjoyed drawing and working on word puzzles. She was a talented seamstress and cake decorator. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and will be deeply missed.
