Mary E. “Beth” Esela

Mary E. “Beth” Esela, 67, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Springfield Memorial Hospital. She was born on June 26, 1954, in Springfield, the daughter of Joseph A. and Mary E. (Lawler) Esela and they preceded her in death.

She is also preceded in death by her brother, Dennis “Denny” Esela.

Survivors include her son, Joseph E. (Sloane) Huddleston of Springfield; two grandchildren, Lander J. and Gentry A. Huddleston; three sisters, Sue Wilkening of Florida, Patricia “Trish” (Walt) Basso of Springfield and Theresa (Mark) Gore of Louisiana; brother, Edward “Eddie” Esela of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Beth was a resident of Springfield all her life. She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1972 and earned her associate degree from Lincoln Land Community College in 1987. She belonged to Blessed Sacrament Church. She was the Head of Computer Operations for the Illinois Senate Democrats. Beth had an appreciation for art. She loved to draw, create pottery, and make jewelry. She was a huge animal lover and was a devoted Chicago Bulls fan.

Beth put her family above all else and, in recent years, her grandkids became the light of her life. She had a generous heart and was always looking for ways to give. She will be sorely missed.

Funeral Mass: 10 am, Monday, January 24, 2022 at Blessed Sacrament Church, with Reverend Jeff Grant officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sojourn House or to Mini-O’Beirne Crisis Nursery.
