Mary Catherine (McCaskey) Grega

Mary Catherine (McCaskey) Grega, 85, of Springfield, died on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born on November 28, 1935, in Springfield, the daughter of Anthony A. and Stephanie “Stella” (Lisauskas) McCaskey. She married Richard Andrew Grega on September 8, 1956.

After graduation from Ursuline Academy, Mary received her RN degree from St. John’s School of Nursing. She worked as a nursing instructor at CACC for over 30 years, retiring in 1996.
Mary was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church. She enjoyed her flowers, birds and taking walks with her neighbor and visiting with her children and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed the company of her cat, Barney.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard; and two sisters, Eva (McCaskey) Smith and Antoinette (McCaskey) Weis.

Mary is survived by five daughters: Kathleen (Doug) Roberts of Lombard, Joni (Jim) Winhold of Pleasant Plains, Paula OBrien of Springfield, Mary Pat Linnik of San Diego, CA, and Diane (Tim) Henson of Springfield; ten grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial Gathering: 4 – 7 pm, Monday, August 9, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield. A prayer service will be held at 4 pm.

Memorial Mass: 10 am, Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at Blessed Sacrament Church with Reverend Jeff Grant officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or American Diabetes Association.
