Mary Ann Van Hamme, 91, of Belle Plaine, IA passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at Belle Plaine Care Center, Belle Plaine.

Mary was born March 7, 1933, in rural Chelsea, Iowa to Bernard and Anna (Iezek) Bennett. She attended rural country school. April 26, 1951 Mary married Maurice Van Hamme at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Chelsea. Together they moved to Anchorage, AK while Maurice served in the United States Army. Following Maurices service they moved to Belle Plaine, IA where they raised their family. Mary worked various jobs from laundry service, a butcher at Food Land until Mary and Maurice owned and operated Van’s Tap in Belle Plaine. Mary later worked at Bumper to Bumper.

She enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, and baking.

Mary is survived by her children, Michael (Donna) Van Hamme of Belle Plaine, Robert (Dawn) Van Hamme of Tama, Annie Van Hamme of Toledo; grandchildren, Justin (April) Van Hamme, Jared Van Hamme, Lisa Garling, Magan (Michael) Landuyt, Leah (Josh) Blegen, Josh (Jordan) Van Hamme, Nikki (AJ) Goos; 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Maurice; sisters, Dorothy Manatt, Ruth Ehlers, Betty Osborne; brother, John Bennett; special friend, Bob Hupfeld.

A celebration of life will be 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at the Chelsea Community Hall, Chelsea, IA. A private family burial will be at Rector Cemetery.
