Marsha J. Sweet

Marsha J. Sweet 73, of Springfield, formerly of New Berlin, died on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born March 9, 1947 in Jacksonville, to John Robert and Betty Lou Glastetter Colwell. She married Paul W. Sweet on June 26, 1971 and he survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Angela (Sean) Thornton of Normal and Luanne (Michael) Loving of New Berlin; three grandchildren, Millicent, Olivia and Anna and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Terry Colwell.

Marsha was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Berlin.

She worked as a Clerk for the State of Illinois at Jacksonville Mental Health; had worked for the Village of New Berlin as clerk for twenty-four years and as a Loan Officer for Warren-Boynton State Bank for over 10 years.

She loved to cook, especially for her family; was a coordinator of Wreaths Across America and was project coordinator for the New Berlin Veterans Memorial.

Visitation: 11 am – 1 pm, Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Berlin.

Funeral Mass: 1 pm, Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Berlin with Rev. Ron Lorilla officiating. Burial will follow at Woodwreath Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
