Marilyn Merrill, 73 died unexpectedly at her home, Thursday, August 15, 2024.
A celebration of life will be held from 1 to 4 on Saturday, September 28, 2024, in the Lawrence Room at the Lawrence Community Center in Anamosa. Interment will be at the Green Center Cemetery, Morley, Iowa at a later date. Goettsch Funeral Home has taken Marilyn and her family into their care.
Surviving is her husband David, 5 children; Jaime (Todd Foldesi) Matus, Jody “Red” Jensen, Jennifer (Jason) Snow, Joshua (Jessie) Merrill, Darla (Mike) McElyea; 12 grandchildren, Zachary and Hailey Jensen, Trey and Kylea Jensen, Jerimiah and Jordan Snow, Jocelynn, Josie, Journee, and Jace Merrill, Benjamin and Brittany McElyea. Her siblings, Neta (John) Coonradt, Pattie Axline, Terry Axline, Dale (Lana) Axline and sister-in-law Debbie Axline.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Robert, Judy, Diane, Jess, Steven, Lola and Joe Jr.
Marilyn Kay Axline was born on March 30, 1951, in Anamosa, Iowa. She was the daughter of Joseph Sr. and Melva (Jayne) Axline. Marilyn graduated from the Anamosa Community schools with the class of 1969. She worked at Westphal Grocery while in high school. She continued her education at Kirkwood College.
Marilyn married David Merrill on September 22, 1972, at the Anamosa United Methodist Church. Marilyn was employed at Collins Radio for 42 years, retiring in 2014.
Marilyn spent countless years volunteering with her children’s activities, as a Camp Fire Leader, 4-H Leader, Cub Scout Leader and Boy Scout Leader. She went on many band trips and several Mission trips with the Anamosa United Methodist Church over the years.
Marilyn’s most precious time was the time spent with her grandchildren, family, and fur-babies. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her.
