Marie H. Vasconcellos Baptist

Marie H. Vasconcellos Baptist, 95, of Springfield, died Monday, February 1, 2021 at Fairhills Residence at the Illinois Presbyterian Home. She was born April 17, 1925 in Tower Hill, IL, to Earl and Margaret Bishop Riley. She married Gerald Arch Vasconcellos and he preceded her in death in 1970, she later married Irvin Baptist and he preceded her in death in 2015.

Survivors include two daughters, Jearri (Steve) Bush of Clermont, FL and Ednita (Graham) Murdock of Springfield; eight grandchildren, Anthony James, Ramsey Murdock, Bridget Murdock, Zoe Murdock, Kailan Minassian, Laura Crawley, Sarah Rosten and Mark Bush and several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; one sister, Barbara and three brothers, Harry, Dick and Ralph.

Marie was a US Army veteran, serving as a nurse during WWII.

She was a former resident of Jacksonville and worked as a Registered Nurse and Director of Nursing at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.

Marie was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church; Emblem Club and was in the Bowling Hall of Fame all in Jacksonville. She enjoyed many sports, especially bowling and golf.

A private graveside service will be held at Tower Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Illinois Presbyterian Home or to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
