Marie A. Hooks

Marie A. Hooks, 88, of Mansfield, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. She was a fighter her entire life, battling against various health issues, never complaining about the difficulties she faced.

She was born July 5, 1933, in Lefor, North Dakota, one of nine children of the late Anna (Herf) and John Phillips. Marie taught grades 1-12 in a one room schoolhouse in her younger years. She retired as an Accounting Supervisor with GMAC. Patient beyond measure, she was a wonderful mother. Marie was a member of Resurrection Parish and the Daughters of Herman. Marie’s signature color was purple.

She is survived by three children, Linda (David) Shook, Timothy (Patricia) Hooks and Laurie (Raymond) Miller, all of Mansfield; grandchildren, Justin (Abby) Miller, Alex Miller (Samantha Porcaro) and Rachel (William) Headley; five great-grandchildren, Zoe and Zac Miller, Hayden, Alexis and Jackson Headley; a sister, Phyllis Walker of Bismarck, ND; special kiddos, Megan, Whitney, Ava, Rita, Johnny, Zayden and Zariah; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Hooks; four brothers, Edward, John, Kenneth and Emil Phillips; and three sisters, Eleanor Reams, Rosalie Creel and Evelyn Hesselden.

Private services will be observed. She will be laid to rest in Oak Grove Memorial Park. The Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is honored to serve the family.
